LASAH THE ASIAN ELEPHANT
For an elephant, Lasah is a much traveled one.
Having performed shows at two renowned international zoos in the region; worked in a logging camp; acted in movies; appeared in TVCs and currently offering rides to tourists, Lasah is arguably one of the most–if not the most–talented elephants in the world!
Lasah the Spokesman, or Spokes-elephant
As the only specimen representing the Asian Elephant species on Langkawi, arguably Malaysia's the window to the world, more people discover that elephants do exist in Malaysia.
The elephant, after all, somehow lost its place in Malaysia's cultural heritage soon after World War II. Fewer than 40 elephants feature in captive programs while fewer than 2,000 wild elephants remain in our jungles.
Lasah the Animal Actor
Having first appeared in the Hollywood movie, Anna & the King, which was partially filmed on Langkawi, Lasah has since appeared in several made-for-TV travel programs and TVCs as well as another movie and a made-in-Malaysia magic show.
Lasah was one of 13 elephants that were on the Perak set of Anna & the King.. Lasah is arguably the only remaining "prop" from the movie still on exhibit at the Oriental Village.
